PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method that produces a hydrocarbon from a lower organic acid.SOLUTION: Lower organic acid-assimilating Bacillus microorganisms are used to produce a hydrocarbon such as squalene from a lower organic acid. The microorganisms may include Bacillus sp.SS-1 strain, Bacillus sp.SS-2 strain, Bacillus sp.SS-3 strain or Bacillus microorganisms having a microbiological nature identical thereto.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
