PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device and a detection method which prevent deterioration in the accuracy of determination using a result of an output from a capacitive sensor.SOLUTION: An image reading device 100 for optically reading a document 105 placed on a document platen glass 102 comprises two capacitive sensors 106 and 108 in a main scanning direction and a sub scanning direction to detect the size of the document on the document platen glass 102. The size of the document 105 is detected on the basis of the presence of a difference in detected capacitance between an area in contact with the document and the other area when the document 105 is placed on the document platen glass 102.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
