PURPOSE:To obtain the title compound useful as a synthetic raw material for a drug intermediate compound, in high purity, by using 4-aminoindoline or 2-(2,6-diaminophenyl)ethanol as an easily available industrial raw material and heat-treating the raw material in an aqueous medium in the presence of sulfuric acid, etc. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound can be produced by using 4- aminoindoline or 2-(2,6-diaminophenyl)ethanol as a raw material and reacting the material in the presence of sulfuric acid or phosphoric acid in an aqueous medium at 130-300 deg.C, preferably 160-250 deg.C, as necessary adding alcohols ar aromatic hydrocarbons, etc., as a replenishing solvent. The amount of sulfuric acid, etc., is preferably 0.5-50mol per 1mol of the raw material and that of water is preferably 5-25 pts.wt. per 1 pts.wt. of the raw material. The 2-(2,6- diaminophenyl)-ethanol used as a raw material can be produced by reacting 2,6-dinitrotoluene with paraformaldehyde and reducing the product and 4- aminoindoline used as the other raw material is obtained by the dehydrative cyclization of the former raw material. |
