[Class 94 (ii)] In the making of paper bags by cutting lengths from a tube 6 moving over a former plate 8, the cutting tool 3 has a component of movement, during the cutting action, against the movement of the tube, so as to cut the lower layer of the tube in advance of the upper layer to form a closure flap. The tool 3 may be carried by an arm 4 rotating with a shaft 5. In another form the shafc 5 is below the tube and at an acute angle to the line of movement of the tube, and the tool 3 makes an obtuse angle with the arm 4. In another form, the vertical plane through the axis of shaft 5 is parallel to the direction of movement of the tube, but the axis of the shaft is at an acute angle to the plane of the tube. |
