PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a base sheet for release paper which reduces residual paste and unintended removal of a label in forming an adhesive sheet and is excellent in label processing suitability, release paper and its production method.SOLUTION: A base sheet for release paper consists of base paper provided with an undercoat layer at least on one side. The base paper is composed of a pulp fiber of a Canada standard freeness degree of 100-300 ml by JIS P8121 and contains a sizing agent, and the undercoat layer contains an α-olefin-modified polyvinyl alcohol and a plate-like pigment. The base sheet for release paper has a Stockigt size degree of 5-20 s by JIS P8122. A production method and release paper using the base sheet for release paper are also provided.
