The method involves determining (S4) a rotational speed gradient Indication after a final combustion process in an internal combustion engine according to a requested stop. The rotational speed gradient Indication indicates a temporal speed gradient with respect to a stopping behavior of the internal combustion engine. A momentary loss of torque indication is determined (S5) to indicate the momentary loss of torque based on the specification for temporal speed gradients. The loss torque specification to be considered is corrected (S7) using the instantaneous torque loss indication. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a device, particularly a computing unit, for adapting torque loss of an internal combustion engine of a motor system; (2) a computer program for executing the method for adaptation of loss torque or drag torque of internal combustion engines; and (3) a computer program product for performing the method for adaptation of loss torque or drag torque of internal combustion engines.
