Window panes of a vehicle are to be utilized in an improved manner for imparting information. A window device for a motor vehicle is therefore provided, which window device has a transparent first pane (4) including a first structure (7) for coupling out light and a transparent second pane (3) which is connected in parallel to the first pane (4). Moreover, the window device has an illumination device (8, 10) for coupling first light (9) into the first pane (4). The second pane (3) has a second structure (12) for coupling out light. A second light can be coupled into the second pane (3) independently of the first light (11) by way of the illumination device (8, 10).
