<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an information recording system capable of excellently cleaning a head, in such a configuration that a recording tape travels between a pair of reels provided in a case. <P>SOLUTION: An information recording system 10 includes a recording tape T traveling in a case 12 by the rotation of a pair of reels 14 and 16 provided in the case, a magnetic head 20 writing or reading information on or from the recording tape T in the case 12, a tape separation mechanism 26 driving the magnetic head 20 between a use position and a cleaning position, and a cleaning device 22 provided in the case 12 and cleaning the head placed in the cleaning position.
