摘要 1,193,406. Seam-ironing apparatus. MANSEW CORP. 31 May, .1968 [5 June, 1967], No. 26347/68. Heading D1A. In sewing and seam-ironing apparatus, a bridging member 238 is attached to the sewing machine and a prepuller including a clutch is attached to the ironing apparatus and the two co-operate to feed the sewn garment on to the lead-on members 186, 236 of a floating buck and a ply separator 235 both forming part of the ironing apparatus, for opening out and pressing the seam, which also includes ironing elements, press drive rollers and transport belts. Member 238 is made up of superposed thin flexible metal layers 238a, (238b) Fig, 3 (not shown) joined by soldering, brazing of welding and is cut to form a strip 241 to separate the plies after sewing. Layers 238a, (238b) separate to receive members 186, 236 forming a sandwich which is compressed by the plies of the main garment pieces as they pass over and under the layers so that the buck 185 can move lengthwise without destroying the bridge. The free ply edges are separated by the edge 236a which butts with edge 186a on the opposite side of the stitching. Tyres 331, 332 on magnetically driven rollers 333, 334 hold the plies as they move along with the stitching aligned with the centre line of the belt 198, mounted in buck 185, edge 236a widening out to surface (237a) Fig. 5 (not shown) to spread out the free edges which are sandwiched between belt 198 and a strainless steel ironing belt 175, a jet of steam being directed on to the fabric just before it meets belt 175. A prepuller disc 333 carrying magnetic slugs 333c and is mounted loosely on the hub 51a of the slightly smaller magnetic pulley 51 and rotates with it. The part cylindrical part conical periphery of disc 333 is covered by tyre 331 will feed the fabric forward, the conical part 333f pushing the free edges transversely. Member 186 is held between body 188a and cover plate 188b between which inserts 204 are loosely mounted comprising rollers 204d which support belt 198. A large vertically movable roller 204g accommodates variations in the thickness of belt 198 which is driven by pressure rollers 141, 145 engaging roller 204g through the fabric. Belt 198 also passes round idler rollers 195, 196 at the ends of the buck, roller 195 being adjustable. Heat pods 205 engage metal belt 175. The drive for the ironing machine comes from the sewing machine motor through variable speed transmission 162 and is adjustable by shifting lever 166 through screw 167 manipulated by hand wheel 168. When sewing a part straight part curved seam, some slack must be available in front of the needle so the ironing machine should operate more slowly during the stitching of the curve. Thus, in a modification, unit 162 is .mounted on a U-shaped shaped member 169 secured to the ironing mechanism and screw 167 is journalled in brackets 167a, 167b on unit 162 and passes through lever 166 Secured on the top edge of bracket 167b is a platform 169a with a depending lug 1696 engaged by screw 167 and a depending lug with a pin 169c which engages a guide slot 167c in bracket 167a. Air cylinder 169d on platform 169a has a diaphragm operated piston 169c linked to lever 166. A knee-operated lever operates a solenoid connected to a valve controlling the input to cylinder 169d to move piston 169c which is normally fully retracted when the operator wants to slow the ironing machine.
