<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarizing element capable of obtaining a desired polarization characteristic in used bandwidth, and to provide a liquid crystal projector using the polarizing element. <P>SOLUTION: A polarizing element comprises: a substrate 11 which is transparent to light in used bandwidth; a reflection layer 12 in which belt-like thin films 12a extended in one direction on the substrate 11 are arranged in one-dimensional grid shape with a pitch smaller than wavelength of the light in the used bandwidth; a dielectric layer 13 formed on the reflection layer 12; and an inorganic fine particle layer 14 which is formed by arranging inorganic fine particles 14a in the one-dimensional grid shape on the dielectric layer 13 located corresponding to the belt-like thin films 12a, and has light absorbing action. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
