<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cover opening/closing detection circuit suppressing power consumption of an apparatus, and to provide an image forming apparatus including the cover opening/closing detection circuit. <P>SOLUTION: The cover opening/closing detection circuit includes: a switching power source for supplying a driving system power supply voltage and a control system power supply voltage; an interlock switch for shutting off the power supply from the driving system power supply voltage to the driving system load in accordance with the opening/closing of the cover; a power saving mode shifting means for shifting to the power saving mode where the driving system power supply voltage is shut off and the power consumption is reduced; a first cover opening/closing detecting means for detecting the opening/closing of the cover in a regular mode; a second cover opening/closing detecting means for detecting the opening/closing of the cover in the power saving mode; and a control part that controls the respective means according to the predetermined condition.
