PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a safety device of a lift for construction for the unexpected contingency by preventing dropping off of a conveying unit when tension force applied to a suspension rope of the conveying unit is removed. SOLUTION: Oblong holes 20 are intermittently provided on a traveling guide surface side of a guide rail 2 in a traveling direction, and on an apex part of a conveying unit frame 7, a pair of locking rods 18 opposed to each other and a retaining mechanism for retaining these locking rods 18 to required retaining positions are arranged. When the tension force applied to the suspension rope 5 is removed, the respective locking rods 18 are outwardly projected from the retaining position by descending displacement of an operation cam 16 connected to a suspension block 13, and distal end parts of the locking rods 18 are intruded into the long holes 20 of the guide rail 2 to suppress dropping off of the conveying unit.
