The method involves initiating a partially automatic maneuvering operation as per given initial conditions. The maneuvering operation is primarily assisted with regard to a steering gear (5) without any manual intervention of a driver. The steering gear is automated after initiating the maneuvering operation according to a direction of maneuver and the chosen direction of driving and turned to the full extent. A drive and braking operations are manually controlled by the driver of a vehicle, and gear-shifting operations are carried out between forward and reverse driving of the vehicle. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an arrangement for performing a method for assisting a maneuvering operation in a vehicle, comprising a controlling and regulating unit (2) a computer program product having a computer readable medium with a set of instructions for performing a method for assisting a maneuvering operation in a vehicle.
