PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device for a vehicle that gives a sense of high grade to a bar display while suppressing an increase in the manufacturing cost. SOLUTION: The display device includes a panel-shaped display (liquid crystal panel) 10 which has a dot display area D and a segment display area S sectioned and arranged on a displaying surface (upper polarizing plate surface) 10g', and light sources 12 which illuminate the panel-shaped display 10 from the back. Pillar-shaped light guides 21 are disposed upright on the respective displaying surface 10g' sides of a plurality of segment electrodes S1 disposed in line in the segment display area S, while the segment electrodes S1 are on/off-controlled in turn from one end side thereof, as the basis, toward the other end side thereof. Illuminating light supplied from the back by the light sources 12 is made emitted through the pillar-shaped light guides 21 by the on-controlled segment electrodes S1, and supply of the illumination light from the back by the light sources 12 to the pillar-shaped light guides 21 is interrupted by the off-controlled segment electrodes S1.
