PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that the electric energy used for the preliminary discharge becomes larger than the energy used for the printing, then the loading to a power supply increases when a preliminary discharge for preventing nondischarge of a printing head of an inkjet printer and a printing discharge are simultaneously performed near the end of a printing medium, since printing elements of long head have many elements actuated simultaneously. SOLUTION: When forming a trigger for driving each element block from the trigger of a column drive criteria, triggers are formed in a number more than blocks. The portion used for the printing discharge and the portion used for the preliminary discharge are divided to perform a control by which the printing discharge drive and the preliminary discharge drive do not lap.
