<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bacteria bed for treating garbage where the garbage can be stably composted even if the composition of the garbage is uneven. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The bacteria bed used when composting the garbage has a base material of peats (peat briquette) cut to a suitable length (for example, 5-10 mm) and is added with a bacteria generating at least a fat-decomposing enzyme (lipase) and the like such as bacillus subtillis, bacillus cereus and the like. When composting, a nutrient containing three major elements (N, P and K) of fertilizer and an activating agent containing micronutrients such as Fe, Ca, Mg, K, Na, S, Mn, Cu, I, Ce, Zn, other minerals (inorganic salts), amino acids, seaweed extracts, vitamins and the like are added properly.
