PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inhibit a functional gradient material from being broken due to an electrode shaft integrated with the functional gradient material when it is produced. SOLUTION: In the functional gradient material FGM, an insulating layer 11 is constituted with 100% SiO<SB>2</SB>, and an intermediate layer 13 and a conductive layer 12 are constituted with Mo and SiO<SB>2</SB>, by using a spark plasma sintering method. In the intermediate layer 13 and the conductive layer 12, the volume mixing ratio of Mo is 3% in the intermediate layer 131 of the intermediate layer 13, 5% in the intermediate layer 132, 10% in the intermediate layer 133, 15% in the intermediate layer 134, and the volume mixing ratio of Mo is 30% in the conductive layer 12. One end of the conductive electrode shaft 14 is made to protrude from the insulating layer 11, and the other end thereof is embedded up to the insulating layer 12. The electrode shaft 14 is formed by mixing rhenium with tungsten. This enables suppression of the breakage caused by the electrode shaft in a process of producing the functional gradient material.
