Class 92 Rockets 7, Fig. 1, in a magazine 1 of a rocket projector are automatically fed into a loading chamber 4 adjoining the firing tube by means of a uniformly rotating feeder drum 3, the drum having closure faces 15 which in co-operation with a spring-loaded closure flap 45c, Fig. 2, operated by the rockets entering the loading chamber 4, close the loading chamber 4 during firing as shown in Fig. 9, the rockets being fed through the magazine by a carrier 6 arranged behind the last rocket and connected by tension belts 11 which wind themselves upon drums 35 in driving connection with the feeder drum 3. The rockets 7 are pushed by the carrier 6 out of the magazine into a duct 67, Figs. 1, 8 where the foremost rocket is forced by a spring-loaded bolt 73 and by a lever 59 into a recess 17 of the feeder drum 3. The rocket is accelerated by the drum and is guided through the duct 67 at a speed exceeding that of the subsequent rockets, which are left behind, thus permitting the drum 3 to turn into the gap thus formed and convey the rocket completely into the loading chamber 4, the flap 45c being first pushed aside and then swinging back into the duct 67 with the closure face 47 hugging the rocket. Thus the loading chamber is closed by the closure faces 15 and 47 of the drum and flap respectively. The re-loading of the magazine is effected by pushing the rockets into the recesses 17 of the feeder drum 3 through an aperture 74, Fig. 3 (not shown) in the drum casing and by turning the feeder drum by the aid of a hand-crank. A rib 53, Fig. 2, on the flap 45c engages in an annular groove on each rocket to restrain it from longitudinal movement and the same purpose is served by ribs 58 and 61 of spring levers 56 and 59 as well as by U-section rails 62, Fig. 1, in the magazine. |
