PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce unnecessary power consumption without complicating the processing of CPU for system control. SOLUTION: An optical disk reproducing device for reproducing a recorded digital signal from a disk by having an audio output circuit 35 and an error correcting circuit 34, comprises a subcode demodulating section 32 for demodulating subcode signal from EFM demodulated signal from the disk, and a control circuit 33 for discriminating the type of EFM demodulated digital signal depending on the state of a control bit of a subcode Q channel in the demodulated subcode signal. The optical disk reproducing device stops the error correcting circuit 34 while making the audio output circuit 35 work when it determines that the digital signal EFM demodulated by the control circuit 33 is audio data, and stops the audio output circuit 35 while making the error correcting circuit 34 work when discriminating the demodulated digital signal to be the CD-ROM data.
