PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicular lighting system capable of improving appearance, by making a built-in article such as a functioning portion hard to be transparent from an occupant chamber side when a light source is not lit up. SOLUTION: The vehicular lighting system 1A is attached to an opening portion 21 provided at a roof trim 2 of a vehicle. The vehicular lighting system 1A comprises the functioning portion 8 having a bulb 50 functioning as the light source, a fluorescence lamp 13 (a back light), and a switch unit 6; a design portion 9 exposed from the opening portion 21 to the occupant chamber side; and a control device 10 controlling a liquid crystal panel 3, the bulb 50, and the fluorescence lamp 13. The design portion 9 has the liquid crystal panel 3 capable of making the light of the bulb 50 permeate to the occupant chamber side and indicating the same color as the roof trim 2, and a second housing 4 holding the liquid crystal panel 3.
