A method and an apparatus for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing communication are provided to transmit and receive data by dividing the data by a desired band width by utilizing orthogonality between sub carriers. A method for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing communication includes the steps of: dividing a baseband digital signal according to a available frequency band(410); individually performing inverse fast Fourier transformation for the divided signals(420); and transmitting sub carriers generated by the inverse fast Fourier transformation through the available frequency band(460). The method for the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing communication further includes the step of searching the valid frequency band by using a cognitive radio technique(405).
