<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanism capable of keeping optimum the content of a look-up table for a density correction all the time even when a fault arises in part of a density correction sensor array. <P>SOLUTION: The density value of the main scanning line of test patterns continuously formed on paper three times are detected while changing the sensing field of view of the sensor array.
