PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oil separator capable of spirally swirling a mixture of refrigerant and lubricating oil to centrifugally separate oil without boring a lead-in port obliquely to an outer cylinder. SOLUTION: An elongate hole 21 having a long cross section in a direction to go away from a discharge port is bored in the outer cylinder 1 of the oil separator from the surface of an overlaid seat part 2. The elongate hole 21 is bored in a position where the side face of a boring tool hollows out the internal wall of the outer cylinder 1 when the boring tool is inserted straight from the surface of the outer cylinder 1 in a direction parallel with a plane orthogonal to an axis of the outer cylinder 1. The elongate hole 21 is formed to be deeper in a farther direction from the discharge port (downward in the figure) with smooth transition of depth. If the elongate hole is formed as mentioned above, the mixture led in from the elongate hole 21 collides with a wall part 22 to form the flow of the lubricating oil mixture along the wall part 22.
