PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form an excellent light spot on a scanned surface of an optical scanner without re-designing a scanning optical system according to the deformed shape and the magnitude thereof on the deflection and reflection face of a polygon mirror used for an optical deflection means. SOLUTION: In the optical scanner, a luminous flux emitted from a light source 1Y is transformed into a required shape of the luminous flux with a coupling lens 3Y, focused as a linear image extending in a main scanning direction with a linear image optical system 5Y, deflected by the high speed rotation of the polygon mirror 7 having the deflection and reflection face in the vicinity of the focusing position of the linear image, and the deflected luminous flux is focused as a light spot on the face to be scanned 11Y with the scanning optical system to optically scan the face to be scanned. The optical system located at the light source side of the polygon mirror 7 is so set as to correct the variation in the focusing position of the light spot due to the deformation of the deflection and reflection face accompanying the high speed rotation of the polygon mirror 7.
