<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bioelectric-potential detector capable of detecting the potential of a living body in a natural state without being affected by the potential of the ground. <P>SOLUTION: When signal electrodes SP1 and SP2 are brought into contact with the living body 10, an electric signal SG1 having the magnitude corresponding to the potential difference between the potentials ϕ1 and ϕ2 of the living body 10 is supplied to an optical modulator 11. The optical modulator 11 receives the light L1 from a light source LS to modulate it to light L2 having intensity corresponding to the magnitude of the electric signal SG1. A photodiode PD receives the light L2 to convert it to a current I having a magnitude corresponding to the intensity of the light L2.
