A structure for the adsorption/desorption of a substance on a bed through which liquid is allowed to pass, wherein the structure comprises: a) a vessel (1) which contains a liquid-permeable bed (2); b) a bottom adaptor (3) which (A) is placed in the lower part of the vessel and defines the vess el bottom and (B) has an opening (4) for the inlet/outlet of liquid to/from the lower part of the vessel, wherein opening (4) also has a distributing functi on (5) directed towards the bottom; c) an upper adaptor (6) which (A) is placed in the upper part of the vessel and (B) has an opening (7) for the outlet in let of liquid from/to the upper part of the vessel, wherein the opening (7) is directed towards the bed (2) and it has a distribution function (8) in the s ame direction; and d) means (23, 24) for connecting the flow of liquid to the adapters (3, 6) or for conducting the flow of liquid away from the adapters (3, 6). In accordance with the invention, the upper adaptor is able to move vertically in the vessel and has a density which allows the adaptor to float on liquid passing through or present in the column.
