PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a front projection type image display device, which is the image display device enabling an operator to easily correct distortion of a display image and being inexpensive. SOLUTION: The image display device which enlarges and displays an original image formed on a display element, based on the input image signal on a projection surface through an optical means is equipped with a laser light beam generator which projects a laser light beam on the projection surface; a laser light beam deflector which deflects the laser light beam projected by the laser light beam generator; a console panel on which the laser light beam deflector is operated to specify vertexes of a desired image external shape on the projection surface with an imaging point of the laser light beam on the projection surface; a computing element which computes correction values of the original image for the desired image external shape from the angles of deflection of the laser light beam at vertexes of the desired image external shape specified with the imaging point of the laser light beam on the projection surface; and an image deforming means of correcting the original image, based on the correction values computed by the computing element.
