PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a deodorizing method sufficiently exhibiting deodorizing effects when using 4-hydroxy-6-methyl-3-(4-methylpentanoyl)-2-pyrone as deodorizing active components and to provide deodorizing compositions for use in the deodorizing method. SOLUTION: In this deodorizing method, a mixture of 4-hydroxy-6-methyl-3-(4-methylpentanoyl)-2-pyrone expressed by Formula (1) and a pentose with a melting point of 80°C or more is heated (for example, in a place producing malodor and a stenchful place therearound or the like). The deodorizing compositions are formed by mixing the 4-hydroxy-6-methyl-3-(4-methylpentanoyl)-2-pyrone with the pentose with a melting point of 80°C or more. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
