PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To hold the quality of images by making a pressure roller abutting on a thinned heating roller to be freely nearer to and away from the heating roller and allowing the pressure roller to abut on the heating roller only in the execution of an image forming process concerned with a printing request. SOLUTION: The fixing device is provided with the thin and cylindrical heating roller 36a having a heat source 37 in its inside, the pressure roller 36b to be abutted on the heating roller 36a by fixed pressure and a pressurizing mechanism 60 for supporting the pressure roller 36b so that the pressure roller 36b is made nearer to and away from the heating roller 36a. In the fixing device, a control part 70 drives the pressurizing mechanism 60 through a driver 71 only in the execution of the image formation process concerned with a printing request and the pressure roller 36b is made away from the heating roller 36a.
