PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photosensitive composition for volume hologram recording which can inevitably develop a hologram under specified exposure conditions without requiring processes of once preparing a volume hologram recording material and of checking whether a hologram is developed or not. SOLUTION: The photosensitive composition for volume hologram recording comprises a photopolymerizable compound, a photoinitiator, and a sensitizer. The reaction rate of the photopolymerizable compound is≥50% when a recording medium comprising the above photosensitive composition is exposed to light of 6 J/cm2dose in a nitrogen atmosphere.
