PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To diagnose leakage for an evaporated fuel treating device without deteriorating operability and exhaust gas emission, and to increase frequency of leak diagnosis. SOLUTION: The evaporated fuel treating device for an internal combustion engine is provided with a bypass passage 8 connecting a fuel tank 3 and an intake pipe 6 while passing around a canister 2, and a bypass valve 13 for opening and closing the bypass passage 8. Upon diagnosing the leakage, depending on operation conditions of the engine, a leak diagnosis with negative pressure introduced from the bypass passage 8 or a leak diagnosis with negative pressure introduced form a purge passage 7 is selectable.
