<p>A refrigerant assembly includes a block-type thermostatic expansion valve (7) and one or more refrigerant tubes (8). The block valve (7) has a body (17) with a port (15, 23, 48, 52) defined by an axial bore (85) and a first counterbore (86) coaxial with the bore (85). The port (15, 23, 48, 52) extends inwardly from one surface, and the refrigerant tube (8) is received in the port (15, 23, 48, 52). The refrigerant tube (8) includes an annular bead (82) which is closely received within a counterbore (86). The surface of the body (17) surrounds the counterbore (86) and is mechanically deformed, preferably by staking, around the entire circumference of the refrigerant tube (8) such that body (17) material is forced radially inward toward the tube (8). The body (8) material at least partially encloses the refrigerant tube bead (82) within the counterbore (86) to secure the refrigerant tube (8) to the valve body (17). A sharp edge (94) between the counterbore (86) and bore (85) is forced against the junction between the bead (82) and the refrigerant tube (8) to provide a fluid tight seal.</p> |
