METHOD FOR PRODUCING FLUORO(TRIFLUOROMETHYL)CINNAMIC ACID

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply and efficiently obtain high-purity fluoro(trifluoromethyl)cinnamic acid using industrially readily obtainable substances as raw materials. SOLUTION: Fluoro(trifluoromethyl)cinnamic acid is produced by a process (1) for reacting chloro(trifluoromethyl)benzaldehyde with a metal fluoride in the presence of a catalyst to give fluoro(trifluoromethyl)benzaldehyde and a process (2) for reacting fluoro(trifluoromethyl)benzaldehyde with acetic anhydride and a metal acetate to give objective fluoro(trifluoromethyl)cinnamic acid. Since a hardly separable by-product is not formed in the production method, purification operation after the reaction has no load and the high-purity objective substance is obtained.
