Up conversion fiber laser having only a pump source arranged such that the product of the glass fiber doping concentration and its length does not exceed a threshold value

The up-conversion fiber laser includes a pump source (101) and a coupling lens for the radiation output by the pump. A resonator mirror is provided which allows this radiation to pass through. This is arranged as a resonator at an end of an active glass fiber which is doped with a predetermined doping concentration of erbium and which generates laser beams. A decoupling mirror is arranged at the other end of the fiber and this is partly transparent to the laser beam. The decoupling mirror either allows the pump radiation to pass through or reflects it. Using only a single pump source, the product of the fiber doping concentration and its length does not exceed 1000 ppm times 1 m. In an embodiment with a pump source at each end of the fiber, this product does not exceed 2000 ppm times 1 m.
