<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To list and hold a relative distance between a printer and the other printer. <P>SOLUTION: The printer 30 acquires the relative distance between the printer and the other printer 32, lists the distance in an alternate printer list table TB40 and holds the distance in the table. The printer 30, for instance, for selecting a printer to which alternate printing is requested, searches the relative distance included in the alternate printer list table TB40, to select a printer 32 of the closest relative distance as an alternate printer.
