1,249,949. Gear pumps and motors. F. FEROY. Oct.24, 1969 [Oct.28, 1968], No.52344/69. Heading F1F. A gear pump or motor comprising a housing 10, Fig. 1, having a pair of parallel intersecting bores in which are rotatably mounted intermeshing gears 11, 16, includes in a clearance space 30 between the housing wall and the gear tooth tips seal members 23 located preferably adjacent the high-pressure port A and the low-pressure port B to minimize side loading on the gears. The seal members 23 include spur teeth 24, Fig. 5 which mesh with teeth 22 formed on the housing wall and radial passages 26 through which fluid at discharge pressure passes to hydraulically balance the seal elements. Gear 16 which is the idler gear, may be mounted on an eccentric journal 17, Fig.3, of a stub shaft 18 adjustable by means of a lever 27 to move the gears towards or away from each other to adjust pump output or meter torque. In this case the teeth 24 of the associated seal members are of smaller pitch diameter than the teeth 22 to allow the seal members to rock slightly as the position of gear 16 is changed. |
