In a cutting machine comprising endless bands 25, 26, Fig. 1, and throatway sections 27, 28 for supporting material 24, e.g. layers of cloth, to be cut by a reciprocating cutting blade 10, a hold-down foot is provided in the form of an apertured circular plate 29 which moves upwardly during downward movement of the blade 10 and downwardly when the blade moves upwardly. The blade, which has a stiffening rod 33, is reciprocated from the shaft 14 of an electric motor 41 by means of a crankwheel 12 and a connecting rod 15. The plate 29 is connected to a rod 31, the upper spring- pressed end 38, Fig. 2, of which engages the periphery of an eccentric 39. The upper surface of the plate 29 has a rod 34, Fig. 5, extending upwardly therefrom through a passage in the lower end 32 of the rod 31, the rod 34 being locked in adjusted position by a set-screw 35. The rod 31 may be reciprocated by a separate motor.</p> |
