PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heartbeat/respiration measuring instrument capable of measuring the heart rate and the respiration rate without restraint.

SOLUTION: The heartbeat/respiration measuring instrument consists of a sheet-like sensor 2 to be pressured by the upper half of a human body, and a measuring circuit for measuring the heart rate and/or the respiration rate from the output of the sensor. The sensor 2 is constituted by inserting a sheet- like dielectric body elastically deformable in the direction of thickness between a pair of sheet-like conductive members. The measuring circuit is provided with a resonance circuit 3 with a sensor 2 as oscillation capacitor, and an arithmetic processing circuit 4 which detects the variation of the oscillation frequency of the resonance circuit 3 and calculates the heart rate and the respiration rate based on the frequency components of the heartbeat and the respiration included in the variation.
