An ink cartridge (10) and an ink package used for the ink cartridge, the ink cartridge (10) having a space for storing the ink package therein and capable of feeding ink to an ink jet printing device, wherein an upper surface (1) is open when the ink cartridge is erected, an ink feed port receiving port (2) is installed at a front generally center part, the ink package is detachable, and slide grooves (4, 4') movably engaged with projected parts formed on the ink package on the outside of an ink feed port are formed in an area ranging from an upper open end to the ink feed port receiving port (2), whereby the residual amount of the ink can be visually observed or detected by touching with a finger, the ink package can be replaced, and the capacity of the ink package can be increased.
