1,004,633. Handbrake mechanism. GIRLING Ltd. Oct. 9, 1963 [Oct. 26, 1962], No. 40543/62. Heading F2E. In handbrake mechanism of the kind in which a rod or bar 14, connected to the brake by a flexible cable 17, is axially slidable within a housing 10 which encloses the rod and is provided with a series of ratchet teeth 13 engageable by a pawl 18 on the rod, release of the pawl is effected by rocking movement of the lever about a fulcrum 22 in the housing. The rod 14 is of U-section and carries a handle 15 and a leaf spring 21 in addition to the pawl 18, the latter being fixed to a bent-back end portion of the rod with which cable nipple 16 is engaged. The fulcrum 22 is a leaf spring stronger than the spring 21, whereby rocking of the rod in a vertical plane fully compresses the spring 21 to release the pawl and only partially compresses the fulcrum 22. A stop 23 limits inward movement of the rod. The ratchet teeth 13 are formed by bent down portions of the housing lower wall. |
