VITERBI DECODER, DECODING METHOD AND PROGRAM AND MEDIUM RECORDING THE PROGRAM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a Viterbi decoder in which current consumption is prevented from increasing due to the pulse memory length. SOLUTION: Decision is made at a block use determining section 10 whether only the first block 12a of a path memory 12 is used or both the first block 12a and the second block 12b are used based on the power supply voltage and the decode data length. If sufficient reduction of error rate is achieved or the operation is required to be sustained while resisting against reduction of the power supply voltage, only the first block 12a is used thus preventing increase of current consumption in a Vierbi decoder 1.
