PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic exposure control device which stably extracts a high luminance value according to the state of a luminance histogram distribution. SOLUTION: This control device is equipped with a system control part 315 which divides a photographed image into areas, a system control part 315 which obtains luminance integral values by the areas, a stop control part 313 which converts the luminance integral values into an exposure evaluation signal, a stop control part 313 which controls an exposure quantity, a system control part 315 which generates the luminance histogram, a system control part 315 which stores a frequency threshold, a system control part 315 which obtains the section of the luminance histogram larger than the frequency threshold and having the highest luminance, a system control part 315 which obtains the section of the luminance histogram smaller than the frequency threshold and having the lowest luminance, and a system control part 315 which determines a method for high-luminance processing from a section number difference, and determines the frequency threshold according to the state of the luminance histogram.
