A substance inhibiting the proliferation of tumor cells which proliferate due to the excessive production of a nuclear receptor HNF4a protein; tumor cell proliferation inhibitors containing this substance as the active ingredient; and a method of inhibiting the proliferation of tumor cells by using the tumor cell proliferation inhibitors.
