PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the sewing on a wasteful part and to improve the productivity by sewing only its necessary part to stiles according to the length to be sewn and numerically controlling the sewing start position and the sewing end position in a stile sewing process for sewing the tatami facing to the stile part of the tatami base mat. SOLUTION: When a keyboard of a stile sewing machine is operated and the control number of the finishing dimension is inputted and designated, a microcomputer takes out the finishing dimension corresponding to the control number from a dimension recording device via an optical communication connecting port. Under this situation, when the tatami base mat temporarily fixing a tatami facing thereto is set in a stile sewing machine, an operation button, etc., is pushed on, sewing machines in this side and in the other side are advanced from their original positions, and a mat end detection limit switch detects the ends of the base mats which the respective sewing machines start sewing, the sewing machines are stopped in the fixed positions. The sewing operation is started to perform stationary sewing, then the normal sewing operation is performed, and at the sewing stop position, the stationary sewing is performed again, and lastly the sewing thread is cut off.
