A collapsible escape shoot convertible to a life raft, for aircraft, comprises a closed frame 10 of inflatable tubes 11, 12 to which a flexible floor 20 is permanently secured at 21 and releasably laced at 24, 25 to form the escape slide (Fig. 2), the tubes 11, 12 having joints arranged to bend at the corners of the frame 10 and at the centres of the side tubes 11 when the floor 20 has been released and a flexible thwart tube 28 is inflated, to form the life raft (Fig. 6) having a flexible floor permanently secured to the frame 10. Each joint comprises an inward fold 13 in the tube, the fold 13 being connected by a web to the other side of the tube, and at the centre folds 13, adjacent sides are releasably laced together. The slide is stowed deflated in a valise or container inside an aircraft doorway, and a panel 26 is detachably connected to the sill and sides of the doorway, so that when jettisoned a trip-line operates a compressed gas bottle 26a to inflate (by aspirating air) the slide frame 10. When the slide is released from the aircraft into water, a painter is tensioned to release the slide floor 20 and the fold fastenings, whereupon the divided thwart tube 28 inflates from the side tubes 11, the frame 10 being divided by baffles 29 and inflatable by valves 30. The raft floor may be in, or lower than, the plane containing the tube axes. A canopy is stored at 32, and comprises a flexible ring tube 33 of octagonal or circuar section and a cross-tube, supported by stout tubes 35 detachably secured to the frame 10, and a sheet 37 united to the tube 33 and having curtains 38, the tubes 33, 35 being inflated by a gas bottle 36 (aspirating air).
