Water-soluble polymers derived from unsaturated monomers with acid or anhydride groups (or their salts), e.g. maleic acid and/or 2-acrylamido-2 -methyl propane sulfonic acid and/or (meth)acrylic acid, are used as dispersants for aqueous suspensions of ceramic raw materials (CRM). Special water-soluble polymers are used as dispersants for aqueous suspensions of CRM. The polymers are derived from (a) 5-90 wt % monomer(s) of formula (I) or their alkali, alkaline earth or ammonium salts, in which R1 = H or methyl; R2, R3 = H or COOH; R4 = H, COOH or -CH2COOH; R2 = R4 = -CO-O-CO-; R3 = R4 = -CO-O-COCH2-; R3 and R4 are different (H or COOH) if R1 = H and R2 = COOH; R3 = COOH and R4 = -CH2COOH if R1 and R2 = H; R3 and R4 are different (H or COOH) if R1 = CH3 and R2 = COOH; R2 = R4 = -CO-O-CO- if R1 and R3 = H; R3 = R4 = -CO-O-COCH2- if R1 and R2 = H ; and/or (b) 5-90 wt % monomer(s) selected from 2-acrylamido- 2-methyl propane sulfonic, vinyl sulfonic, vinyl phosphonic, styrene-sulfonic or 2-acrylamido-2 -methylpropionic acid, or salts of these acids (as above) or sodium methallyl sulfonate; and/or (c) 5-90 wt % monomer(s) selected from (meth)acrylic acid (or salts as above) and (meth)acrylamide. |
