The invention relates to a method for connecting the end of a pipe (2, 31) to a pipe coupling (1) having at least one supporting pipe insert (3) provided with a ratchet mechanism (5, 65, 67, 124). First of all, the pipe (2, 31) and the supporting pipe insert (3) are fitted together. Then, the pipe (2, 31) is pressed so as to obtain an assembly that is form-fit with the ratchet mechanism (5, 65, 67, 125) and a joint with the axially contiguous sealing surfaces (7, 66, 68, 122). The method is characterized in that an axial force that impinges upon the sealing surfaces (7, 66, 68, 122) is applied to the pipe (2, 31) via an elastic device (20, 52) bearing upon the pipe coupling (1). The pipe (2, 31) can expand on the side of the ratchet mechanism (5, 65, 67, 125) which is turned to the pipe. |
