The fixing system consists of a plastic component (2) made from polyamide 6-6 reinforced with glass fibres, overmoulded onto the upper end of the gear lever (1) and made with a surface shaped to engage with the knob (3). The end of the gear lever, which is solid and pref. round in section, has a projecting cylindrical tip (1a) with a milled surface to receive the over-moulding. The shaped outer surface of the over-moulding has a series of ribs, e.g. in a cross-shape, and teeth to engage with the inside of the gear lever knob. In addition, the over-moulding can be made at the same time as a spherical pivot head is made on the other end of the lever. Lower manufacturing costs, enabling gear lever knob to be fitted with little effort but requiring a much greater effort to remove it.
