The invention relates to moulding material containing A) at least one modified polyarylene ether having carboxyl groups and recurring units of formulas (I) and (II), where x is 0.5 or 1, t and q independently of each other are 0, 1, 2, or 3, n is a whole number between 0 and 6, Q, T, Y and Z independently of each other are one chemical bond or group each, selected from among -O-, -S-, -SO2-, S=O, C=O, -N=N-, -R<a>C=CR<b>- and -CR<c>R<d>-, where R<a> and R<b> independently of each other each represent a hydrogen atom or a C1-C12 alkyl group and R<c> and R<d> independently of each other each represent a hydrogen atom or a C1-C12 alkyl-, C1-C12 alkoxy-, or C6-C18 aryl group, where R<c> and R<d> independently of each other can be substituted with fluorine and/or chlorine atoms or, together with the C-atom to which they are bonded, can form a C3-C12 cycloalkyl group which can be substituted with one or more C1-C6 alkyl groups, provided that at least one of the T, Q and Z groups represents -SO2- or C=O and that if t and q are 0, Z is -SO2- or C=O; Ar, Ar<1>, Ar<2> and Ar<3> independently of each other represent C6-C18 arylene groups which, if desired, are substituted with C1-C12 alkyl-, C6-C18-aryl-, C1-C12-alkoxy groups or halogen atoms; R<1> is H, C1-C6-alkyl or -(CH2)n-COOH; and the molar ratio of units of formula (I) to units of formula (II) ranges from 0.05: 99.95 to 99.95: 0.05; B) if desired at least one polyarylene ether with anhydride groups (b1) or a polyarylene ether with epoxy groups (b2) or a mixture of (b1) and (b2); C) at least one polyarylene ether with end groups which differ from those of the polyarylene ethers B); D) at least one polyamide and E) at least one toughened caoutchouc with groups reactive in relation to carboxyl groups (e1) or a mixture of (e1) and at least one toughened caoutchouc which does not contain any groups reactive in relation to carboxyl groups (e2).
