The steam generator for use in a sauna (60) has an open vessel (30) that is of rectangular cross section. The vessel is partially filled with thermally conductive elements (20) that are heated by an electrical unit (10) and has water poured over them to create steam. Inset into the top is a funnel (40) to receive the water which passes via a tray (210). Steam enters the cabin and the heating is controlled a temperature regulator (5) with heating activated when the temperature falls below a set level.
